New California workers' compensation bill affects athletes

Professional athletes are often signed with an agency or team manages their insurance, benefits and workers' compensation concerns. Unfortunately, the law varies in many states, which can create hurdles for athletes who have become injured while outside of their home state. Recently, California lawmakers have been working diligently to create new laws that would help define the way that such workers' compensation issues are managed in our state.

California workplaces are expected to maintain certain health and safety standards in order to prevent workers from getting sick and injured. If a workplace violates these standards, citations and fines may be the result. For example, Cal/OSHA recently fined Corona Regional Medical Center after receiving complaints about asbestos.

Every day, industrial workers across the country walk out their front door and enter the industrial site where they work. This routine daily occurrence is often thought of as just another day at work. However, industrial accidents are always a possibility. California industrial workers may want to take note of a recent work injury that resulted in the worker's death.

Oil refinery blast causes critical workplace injuries for 1 man

Certain workplaces carry a higher risk for accidents than others. Oil refineries are no exception, since workers are in proximity to flammable liquids. A 24-year-old man is in critical condition at a University of California burn center following the explosion of three oil tanks at the Bango Oil Refining Company, which is located in a neighboring state. A man who was working on a school building has died from his injuries following a horrific fall. The construction accident occurred earlier this month when the man was injured on the job. Unfortunately, any construction job, whether in California or elsewhere, can be a potentially hazardous undertaking, regardless of all safety protocols in place.
