Some industries begin by stretching to reduce workplace injuries

Whether one is working at a construction site, industrial plant or even a business office, all workers face a certain level of risk at their places of employment in California and across the country. Some jobs are much more physically demanding than others, which can often result in workplace injuries, such as strains. This is particularly true for sanitation and road workers.

Because of this, it is important for workers to take time to stretch before they start work. In another state, a public works company has been able to reduce workplace injuries by about half by doing this. Their workers start their day with about five to 10 minutes of stretching.

Two years ago, before this daily stretching routine was implemented in Kentucky, the industry had a lot of workers out with sprains, strains and muscle injuries. These types of injuries are common in the public works industry since workers are constantly bending, twisting, lifting and straining. However, stretching, among other safety measures, is a great way to keep the injury rate down as well as the number of workers’ compensation claims that are filed.

However, in the event that workers suffer injuries at their California workplaces, they are more than likely eligible for workers’ compensation benefits. Those who have suffered workplace injuries would do well to educate themselves concerning the laws dealing with workers’ compensation. This could ensure that they are treated fairly as they attempt to obtain benefits to help them medically and financially until they are able to fully recover and return to their jobs.
