2 Workers injured on the job when scaffold tips over

Whenever workers across the country, including in California, have to work on or around scaffolds, they are at risk of suffering on-the-job injuries. Despite the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's strict regulations for the erection of scaffolds and the protection of employees on these structures, workers continue to be injured on the job. It is not uncommon for victims of scaffolding accidents to be severely injured or worse.

Emergency workers from a fire department in another state were recently called out to a workplace accident at a construction site. It was reported that two workers were tasked with cutting steel on the second floor level of a building. While they were busy setting up the job, the scaffold structure reportedly collapsed.

Only one worker was on the scaffold at the time, but the other one was reportedly struck by it. Emergency workers and police stabilized the injured workers while firefighters set up a rigging system to lower them to ground level. Both men were rushed to the hospital with leg injuries. The severity of the injuries was not mentioned, but they were reported to be non-life threatening. The safety officers of both construction companies that are involved in the project arrived to investigate the incident, and it was reported that OSHA had been notified.

Investigators will determine whether this workplace accident was caused by violations of safety regulations. Regardless of who was at fault, those who were injured on the job may pursue compensation to assist with medical expenses and lost wages. Injured workers are entitled to file benefit claims with the California workers' compensation insurance fund.
