Man succumbs to fatal workplace injuries after forklift accident

Workers in the industrial sector in California are exposed to a variety of dangerous situations every day. One of the hazards that has been linked to thousands of workplace injuries and deaths is the forklift. Federal regulators expect company owners to ensure that only properly trained workers operate forklifts, and they are also expected to provide regular safety training to those who operate the machines and those who work in the vicinity of forklifts.

After the tragic death of a worker in another state, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident to determine whether the employer violated safety regulations. It was reported that a 59-year-old worker lost his life while he was on the job. A police report indicates that the worker was knocked down by a forklift moving in reverse.

The injured worker was reportedly rushed to a medical center for treatment for the critical injuries he suffered. Sadly, he succumbed to the injuries and was declared dead at the hospital. An autopsy was performed, and it was determined that his death was caused by the forklift accident combined with a pre-existing heart condition.

Moving forward after losing a loved one to fatal workplace injuries will never be easy. The trauma is often exacerbated by the unanticipated financial consequences. Dependents of workers who lost their lives in workplace accidents are typically entitled to pursue death benefits through the California workers' compensation program. In addition to covering the expenses of a funeral and burial, along with medical expenses for the time leading up to the death, dependents may also receive some level of compensation for lost wages.
