On-the-job injury and the dangers of combustible dust

When dangerous conditions in the workplace go unnoticed, it can result in serious accidents, leading to injury or death. One commonly unnoticed danger in certain workplaces is the presence of combustible dust. Combustible dust can lead to on-the-job injury for many California workers, including those who are employed on oil rigs and in manufacturing plants, factories and more.

Combustible dust is a sort of hidden danger in many workplaces. Dust is a natural occurrence, and it is often ignored because of its commonality. Combustible dust builds up between pipes, machines and other pieces of equipment with moving parts. Various types of materials can turn to combustible dust, including metal filings, flour, food particles and even powdered coffee creamer.

In 2008, a deadly explosion in a sugar factory illustrated the dangers of ignored dust build up. As combustible dust can be made from organic and inorganic materials of all kinds, it is important for employers to address this potential danger. Dust accumulation should be monitored and cleaned on a regular basis, as dust could be ignited by a wide variety of heat sources.

California workers have the right to a safe workplace, and any danger should be immediately addressed. If combustible dust does lead to an on-the-job injury, workers have the right to seek recovery through workers' compensation benefits. No matter the circumstances of a work accident, injured parties may explore their legal options with the help of a knowledgeable attorney. The workers' compensation claims process may be complex, but there is no need to navigate it alone.
