California workers' compensation: Caltrans worker struck by car

Any job that requires working near traffic can have dangerous consequences. Unfortunately, one California worker ended up in intensive care recently after he was struck by a car while performing traffic control duties at a construction site. As he recovers from his injuries, he and his family may wish to look into their eligibility for workers' compensation benefits.

The accident occurred on a Thursday afternoon in late October as the construction crew was working on a pedestrian bridge over Highway 101. The Caltrans worker was standing behind traffic cones when a car driven by an 84-year-old man ran through the cones and struck him. The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the incident.

The worker was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. He was later airlifted to a hospital in Sonoma County, where he was said to be in stable condition. According to reports, he sustained major injuries that were non-life-threatening. Following the incident, Caltrans released a statement reminding motorists to use caution on the roads, particularly near construction sites.

Because the Caltrans worker was injured on the clock, he is likely eligible for workers' compensation benefits that can provide some financial assistance for medical expenses and lost wages. He and his family may find it helpful to speak to someone with knowledge of the workers' compensation laws in our state. Receiving all the benefits to which he is entitled may help him concentrate on his physical and emotional recovery from the accident so he can return to work as soon as possible.
