2 injured on the job in California refinery burn accident

An individual who has been injured on the job may be eager to pursue justice in the situation. For instance, he or she may seek the workers' compensation benefits to which he or she is entitled due to becoming injured on the job. However, the employee may also want a thorough investigation, especially if the job site appears to have been unsafe. In a recent California case, however, the company where two employees recently were injured has managed to put a stop to a federal investigation into its site.

The company, Tesoro Corp., has prevented federal officials from exploring its refinery after two workers suffered from acid burns as a result of a broken pipe. The employees ended up with first and second-degree burns. State authorities shut down the portion of the refinery where the accident took place.

Federal authorities arrived at the scene shortly thereafter but have been blocked from returning to the job site by the company. This is because company officials viewed the accident as being minor and thus did not believe it required a federal investigation. Federal officials, however, are still attempting to get documents from Tesoro Corp. regarding its operations.

It is natural to be fearful after getting injured on the job. The injured worker might be worried about losing wages along with losing his or her ability to function normally. For this reason, most businesses in California are required to obtain workers' compensation insurance to cover employees who are injured or become ill on the job. The injured individual certainly has the right to pursue the maximum amount of workers' compensation benefits applicable to his or her situation.
