Work injury results from explosion at testing lab

A day may start out normally -- an individual takes a final sip of coffee, kisses his or her spouse goodbye and heads to work. Just eight hours later, however, that person could be trying to come to terms with the fact that his or her life will no longer be the same due to a work injury. Being injured on the job in California can indeed be a frightening scenario, particularly when the injured party has been working at the job site for a long time and simply never saw the catastrophe coming. In this type of seemingly dark situation, workers' compensation very well may provide a ray of hope.

One person is facing this type of scenario following a work-related accident. In this out-of-state case, a fire occurred at a firm that manufactures aerosol can valves. The fire was the result of an explosion that occurred in the company's testing lab.

Authorities discovered that a female employee suffered from first-degree flash burns stemming from the fire. The woman was taken to the hospital. Fortunately, firefighters were able to put out the fire.

Getting ill or hurt on the job happens from time to time, and companies in California are obligated to prepare for the worst even as they hope for the best scenarios in the workplace. An employee who has endured a work injury may choose to file a workers' compensation claim, and his or her employer cannot retaliate against the employee for doing so, such as by terminating him or her. An employee has the right to try to maximize the benefits he or she is entitled to following a work injury in California.
