Employee suffers work injury while moving large glass sheets

It is no secret to California workers that workplace injuries can result in short-term and long-term injuries for the worker involved. A work injury can also be incredibly painful, especially when lacerations are involved. An employee for Cardinal Glass was recently transported to the hospital for medical treatment after he suffered a serious work injury.

Apparently, the man was carrying and moving large sheets of glass when one of the sheets of glass broke. For some reason, he leaned over so that he could look around the glass sheets and a piece of glass fell. He ended up being cut severely on his neck.

He was able to talk and appeared to be conscious. However, the officer wasn't positive on how alert the injured man was. He was transported to a trauma unit after the paramedics were able to peer underneath the gauze on his neck and determine the size of the laceration. It was reported that the hospital discharged him, but his current condition was unknown.

Reportedly, there were no co-workers who witnessed the incident around the employee. Authorities were further informed that there was no video surveillance footage of the incident. OSHA is expected to visit the building within the next few days and will likely conduct an investigation into the incident.

Employers in California and across the nation have the responsibility of ensuring they provide a safe work environment for their employees. Employers are required to undergo certain safety checks and implement safety measures in the workplace that prevent injury. Because the man suffered a work injury while on the clock, he may be eligible for workers' compensation benefits, which could assist with living and utility expenses until he can recovery from the injury and get back to work.
