2 suffer fatal workplace injuries related to carbon monoxide

In any industry, there is a certain level of risk that California workers face when they clock in each day. Unfortunately, that risk can sometimes result in fatal workplace injuries. This was the case in a recent industrial accident that claimed the lives of two workers in another state.

Apparently, the cause of the workers' deaths was due to gas that was inside one of the tanker cars. The workers were cleaning the car. While cleaning the car that was said to have contained corn-based liquid, carbon monoxide overwhelmed them.

The carbon monoxide had reportedly been building up inside the car. One worker fell inside the tanker car. His co-worker tried to save him and died at the accident site. The second victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.

It is expected that the local police will investigate the incident. OSHA will also investigate. If it is found that the industrial plant was not following proper safety procedures or did not have necessary safety measures in place, the company may be fined and could ultimately face responsibility for the workers' deaths.

Regardless, the families of the two workers who suffered fatal workplace injuries will likely have a hard time moving past this difficult time in their lives. Their loved ones have been unexpectedly taken from them. They may be eligible to file for and receive workers’ compensation death benefits. This may help the families recover from the financial burden that is left behind and may allow them to focus on grieving and recovering emotionally without having to worry about finances. The same could be said for families in California who find themselves in similar situations.
