Working in an industrial environment in California can often require the use of forklifts and other mechanics to complete tasks and travel around expansive warehouse areas. When machinery is not properly maintained or cared for or a company fails to train staff, employees can be injured on the job. A young man remains in critical condition after being seriously injured in a recent workplace accident.
The incident took place while the victim was operating a forklift, raising a coworker up to the roofline of the industrial company’s building. Somehow, the lifting mechanism fell back and collapsed on the roof of the machine after the employee dislodged from the lift. The young man driving was trapped inside of the forklift cab and pinned to his seat under the weight.
Emergency crews arrived to the early morning accident and used extraction procedures to remove the operator from the machine. He was immediately transported to a nearby medical facility where he received trauma care for his serious injuries. Crush injuries can inflict serious internal and external harm to a victim and may require lengthy recovery times and result in long term disability.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has started an investigation to help determine what may have caused or lead up to the terrible accident. The man that was injured on the job will likely require workers’ compensation to help cover medical expenses and lost wages. A California employee that suffers a similar experience may seek professional help to collect all available benefits in order to ensure they do not suffer financially.
