Understanding the workers' compensation process

When a California worker is injured on the job, it can be overwhelming to know what to do next and how to initiate the benefits claims process. Workers' compensation is designed to benefit injured workers, but it can be complex to actually obtain rightful benefits. It can be useful for every worker to be aware of his or her rights and to have a knowledge of how the claims process works.

There are various types of benefits available through workers' compensation. Some of the available benefits include medical bills, rehabilitation, lost wages and -- if needed -- vocational retraining. Workers' compensation only covers work-related injuries and ailments, but it is also applicable for employees who have suffered repetitive stress injuries, nerve damage and illnesses related to their job.

Unfortunately, some claims are denied or delayed. If a claimant believes that he or she has a legitimate injury or illness and has the documentation to support the claim, it makes sense to secure the services of a lawyer experienced in these types of situations and familiar with workers' rights in California. Moreover, every claimant has the right to appeal a denied claim.

No one should navigate the workers' compensation process without the help and support of an experienced attorney. A legal ally and knowledge of one's rights can provide a distinct advantage during an otherwise complex and frustrating time. A person can get an explanation of how this type of insurance works or an honest opinion regarding a legal claim by seeking a complete case evaluation as soon as possible after a work accident.
