Worker suffers fatal injury when hit by tractor trailer

On Behalf of | Jan 25, 2018 | High Risk Occupations |

When a California worker is around large vehicles, heavy equipment and a busy atmosphere, there is a constant threat of being injured in a workplace accident. These incidents can happen because of recklessness on the part of another worker, negligence, faulty equipment or for many other reasons. These jobs fall into the category of high risk occupations and people who are injured in the course of employment should know they have the right to seek compensation.

A tractor-trailer was backing up when it hit and killed a 30-year-old man. The victim was assisting the driver of the trailer with backing up. After he was hit, he was pinned for an estimated 15 minutes. When the driver found the man, he was unresponsive and emergency personnel were called. The man was pronounced dead at the site of the accident. It is not believed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

When there is a fatal accident, the family of the victim will need to consider multiple issues that will arise. This includes funeral expenses, the financial implications for the worker’s family, the emotional impact and more.

Insurance companies will inevitably try and offer the family a settlement to preclude what could be a costly legal filing. The offer might sound reasonable, but, when everything that was lost is calculated, it is rarely sufficient. This is especially true when the person who died was relatively young. Having legal assistance can help with the investigation and ensure that the family gets the maximum benefits they are entitled to.
