Company cited after workers fatally injured while working

A California construction company has been cited by Cal/OSHA after two workers were fatally injured while working. The two men fell approximately 80 feet to their deaths off of a platform hoisted by a crane. The company is said to be guilty of "serious violations," which may have led to the tragic incident. Failure to adhere to safety standards can result in employees being injured while working and other consequences.

The two workers were killed at a California bridge construction site. According to the report, the crane that was supporting the platform had not been inspected nor had it been certified for use. There was no trial run performed by the crane operator and there was no signal person assisting with the task. The blatant disregard for safety protocols not only resulted in two deaths but also in a fine amounting to more than $100,000.

Employers are required by law to perform regular safety checks, particularly on construction sites. This accident occurred as the result of a cable breaking while the crane was in use, which may have been prevented with a thorough inspection and adherence to safety rules. While every work accident is tragic, it is especially so when it could have been prevented.

When an employee is killed while performing his or her work duties, the family members left behind may have the right to seek workers' compensation death benefits. Workers' compensation is a complex area of law and is frequently changing. Those seeking recovery after being injured while working or the family of a deceased worker may benefit from legal assistance as they navigate the legal system.
