On-the-job accident electrocutes, burns worker

On Behalf of | Feb 28, 2018 | Workplace Injuries |

When there is a work accident in California, it can come in many different circumstances. Electrocution can lead to death and long-term damage. Even a work accident in which disaster was averted could have aftereffects on the worker and his or her ability to get back to the same job. If this incident happened because of a safety hazard on the part of the employer, it could also warrant benefits. A full investigation is needed and a legal professional can help with a case for compensation after workplace injuries.

A construction site accident led to workers being electrocuted. Workers were shifting a scaffold when it touched a power line. Subsequently, electricity was sent along the pole. One worker was electrocuted. He let go of the pole. Another worker stumbled forward and his body was in contact with the pole and caught fire.

The brother of the worker who caught fire, who was working with him on the site, grabbed him and pulled him from the pole. The first time he tried, he felt the electrocution himself and let his brother go. He tried again and succeeded. His brother was not breathing. After performing CPR, his brother woke up. He was severely burned internally and externally. He was hospitalized and is expected to survive. A breathing tube was removed and he is recovering. California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal OSHA) is investigating this accident.

When there is a work accident, there are multiple issues that can come about after it has happened. Medical expenses, the inability to return to work in a timely fashion, the need for help performing basic tasks are common. Often, people are unable to do the same kind of work they did before. For a construction worker, this can be problematic as training might be needed to do another type of job.

Workers’ compensation is essential to help those who have suffered injuries from an accident on the job. With an electrocution and burns, there can be physical aftereffects and psychological problems. A lawyer who is experienced in helping clients who have been injured in a work accident should be contacted immediately for assistance.
